Event: Scrap Hat Craft-In
Posted by Katie Deska on Jun 6th 2022
Create your own "scrap hat" and/or contribute to a shared upcycled accessory. Then, consider wearing your trash-to-fashion style down the runway at the ScrapFest ReFashion Show on July 8th!
You're invited to upcycle and refashion scrap fabric and other material into a garment or accessory to model at the ReFashion Show. Spartan Upcycle is hosting this opportunity to help you (and us!) create an accessory or garment for the show. (If you'd rather just make something for fun, and skip the ReFashion Show, that is okay too!)
- Drop-in Craft-in with Spartan Upcycle: Scrap Hats!
- Friday June 17, 2022
- 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- At the MSU Surplus Store & Recycling Center (in the Education Center)
- FREE
- Open to the public.
Dig through bins of discarded materials and secondhand items, choose what strikes you, and have fun exploring what's possible when we rethink fashion and try on the unconventional!
We'll be joined by puppet artists and MSU faculty Steve Baibak and Pia Banzhaf, who will help us bring our visions to reality!
Materials and adhesive/attachment options will be provided, including buckets, hard hats, bowls and other "hat bases," plus cardboard, wire mesh, reels of film, silk flowers, plastic packaging, fabric scraps, photo slides, plant pots, bottle caps, string, wire, and more…
Select your favorites and attach them into a fun upcycled statement piece!
