The purpose of this sign is to help capture water bottles for recycling. This sign is suitable for campus settings where water bottles are the primary item that you are trying to capture for recycling. In office suite (non-public) locations, this sign could be paired with a Common Area Intermediate Recycling Box, which serves as the midway point in the three stage approach to convenient recycling (see below). Please note, we also have a sign for Plastic/Metal, which would capture additional materials.

Stage 1) Under-the-Desk Personal Recycling Boxes placed at individual work stations. Stage 2) Common Area Intermediate Boxes in shared spaces within the office suite/work area. Stage 3) Hallway Recycling Bins located in public spaces, which must be placed in approved locations if they are to be serviced by IPF Custodial Staff.
We suggest utilizing the Under-the-Desk Personal Boxes, and transferring the contents periodically to the Common Area Intermediate Box, then coordinating with colleagues to periodically empty the shared Intermediate Box into the corresponding Hallway Bin. While it might seem excessive at first, and may not be necessary in all locations, making recycling accessible and convenient is a crucial factor in diverting material away from the landfill. If its determined that Intermediate Boxes are not necessary, we encourage simply transferring the contents from Under-the-Desk Personal Boxes into the corresponding Hallway Bin.
